When it comes to replacing the ink cartridges in a printer, the manufacturer of the printer will come into play. This is because certain manufacturers can only have specific ink cartridges placed in the printer. For example, with Epson printer ink cartridges, there are these same two options; that is, there are colored Epson printer ink cartridges and there are black Epson printer ink cartridges. They are different sizes and they go in different compartments in the printer.

There are a few different ways to tell the difference, in addition to the fact that the cartridges are different sizes. The Epson printer ink cartridges also have the boxes that they are marketed in to tell the consumers what color they are. Not only will they say on them whether they are black or colored, but the Epson printer ink cartridges will also have a dot on the packaging material that will either be one black dot, to illustrate that it contains a black Epson printer cartridge, or there will be several colorful dots to illustrate that there is a color Epson ink cartridge inside.
Once the packaging material is open, there are also ways to tell which type of ink is inside the cartridge as well. There are labels on the ink cartridges. The label will inform the consumer as to whether or not there is colored or black ink inside of the cartridge.
